Kur'an'ın ve İncil'in ana kaynaklarından biri Tevrat'tır. İncil'in neredeyse tamamı Tevrat kaynaklıdır. Kur'an'daki yaklaşık üç peygamber hariç bütün peygamberler, Tevrat'ta adı geçen İsrailoğulları peygamberleridir.
Tevrat, İbranice "Tora" kelimesinin Arapça karşılığıdır. Yahudiler bu kitaba "Torah" derken, Araplar "Tevrat" olarak adlandırır. Bu bir tercüme meselesidir.
